Richmond, with its magnificent park, its Georgian townscape and its views from the hill across one of the finest river landscapes in England, is one of the most desirable and rewarding destinations in the greater London area. Guildford, the county town, sits on the River Wey with a steep high street of considerable charm, a medieval castle and a modern cathedral on the hill above the town.
Surrey’s smaller towns and villages reward exploration. Farnham, in the west of the county, is one of the finest Georgian towns in England. Godalming, Dorking and Haslemere each have their own distinct character, while the villages of the Surrey Hills offer some of the most quintessentially English countryside landscapes within reach of the capital.
