Information about Yorkshire and Humber

Yorkshire and the Humber is one of England’s largest and most celebrated regions, encompassing the historic counties of North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and East Yorkshire, along with Lincolnshire north of the Humber estuary.

The landscape is extraordinary in its variety. The Yorkshire Dales National Park offers some of the most iconic scenery in England, with limestone pavements, dry stone walls, waterfalls and a network of valleys — known locally as dales — each with its own distinct character. To the east, the North York Moors National Park stretches out in vast sweeps of heather moorland, punctuated by ancient abbeys and dropping dramatically to one of England’s finest coastlines. The East Yorkshire coast, with its chalk cliffs, sandy beaches and traditional seaside towns, provides yet another reason to visit.

History is woven into every corner of the region. Viking heritage, medieval abbeys, Civil War battlefields and a rich industrial past all leave their mark, from the cobbled streets of York — one of England’s most visited and best preserved historic cities — to the grand country houses and estates that dot the countryside.

Leeds and Sheffield are both major cities with thriving food, culture and music scenes, while Harrogate offers a more genteel experience with its spa heritage and elegant Victorian architecture.

Whether you are looking for a remote farmhouse in the Dales, a seaside cottage on the Yorkshire coast, a city break in Leeds or a heritage escape in York, this is a region that never disappoints.
